Cushion Cashflow — cash, stock and forecast on one screen
For Shopify store owners

Your cash, your stock and your forecast don't talk to each other.

Every reorder is a cash decision, sized off a forecast — and you're making it across three tools that can't see each other. Cushion is the one screen where all three finally meet. Built by a Shopify store owner who got sick of guessing.

The real problem

Three tools. Three blind spots. One decision sat right in the middle.

Each of these is decent at its own job. None of them can see the other two — and the choices that make or break your year live in the gaps between them.

Tool 01

Your cashflow sheet

Knows

  • What's in the bank today
  • Bills due and payroll dates
  • What cleared last week

Can't see

  • That £48k of stock is about to be ordered
  • What you're actually going to sell
Tool 02

Your inventory planner

Knows

  • Units left and weeks of cover
  • Lead times and reorder points
  • What's on the water

Can't see

  • Whether you can afford the reorder it just told you to place
  • That paying for it drops you to two weeks of cash
Tool 03

Your sales forecast

Knows

  • Growth trend and seasonality
  • Subscriber base and churn
  • What a good November looks like

Can't see

  • That you run out of stock on 12 September
  • What funding that growth costs in cash

Every reorder is all three at once.

Buying stock is the biggest cash decision you make each month, sized off a forecast, paid on supplier terms. It is one decision — and you're making it in three tools that have never met. Cushion is the screen where they do.

What it costs you

This is what the disconnect actually does.

None of these are mistakes. They're what happens when three tools each hold a third of the answer.

You reorder blind

The inventory tool says order now. It has no idea that paying for it drops you to two weeks of cash. So you either overbuy and go tight, or hesitate and go out of stock — and both cost you more than the reorder did.

You forecast sales you can't fulfil

The forecast says November is your biggest month ever. The stock sheet says you run dry on 12 September. Both are sitting on your laptop right now, and nothing has ever put those two sentences next to each other.

You sit on cash you didn't need to

So you get cautious. You hold back the reorder to protect the bank balance, when the forecast and your supplier terms said you had room all along. Growth you already paid for, left on the table.

Who built it

I built this for my own store, because nothing on the app store did the job.

I run a Shopify store selling mystery football shirt boxes. Stock in three markets, a subscription base, suppliers on different terms, money moving in four currencies. Not a finance guy. Just a founder who kept getting surprised by his own bank account.

For years I did what everyone does. A cashflow spreadsheet in one tab. Stock levels in another. A sales forecast in a third. Every decision that mattered meant reading all three and doing the joining up in my own head — usually on a Sunday night, usually wrong.

"I had three tabs open and the answer wasn't in any of them."

And it was always the same decision that caught me out: how much stock to buy. That's a cash question wearing a stock question's clothes, priced off a forecast. I couldn't find anything that would answer it, because answering it properly needs all three at the same time — and every tool on the app store only does one.

So I built the thing that joins them. It reads my books, my store, my subscription platform and my bank, then models the next 13 weeks properly — payroll on payroll dates, VAT on VAT dates, supplier terms as they actually are rather than as they're written. Now the stock number and the cash number are on the same screen, and the reorder is just obvious.

It changed how I run the business. Reorders happen on a number. Payment runs get approved in minutes. I stopped being surprised. Enough store owners have asked me for it that I've packaged the whole thing up — and made it work with whatever stack you're already on, not just mine.

Whatever you already run on.

Cushion isn't tied to one stack. It doesn't care whether your books are in Xero or QuickBooks, or whether your subscriptions run on Recharge or Skio. It reads what you've got.

Real bank position is the foundation, so this is the one place Cushion insists on a live feed. Ad spend comes in so the run-rate is honest.

If it has an API or it can export a CSV, we'll wire it up during your setup — at no extra cost. In four years of running this on my own business I've never hit a stack it couldn't read.

How it works

Live by the end of the day.

STEP 01

Connect your data

Point it at your store, your books and your bank — whichever ones you use. Read-only keys throughout: it can look, it can't move a penny.

STEP 02

Set your assumptions

Payroll dates, tax quarters, supplier terms, lead times. Set them once and every week lands where it should.

STEP 03

Open it every morning

Feeds rebuild overnight. One screen, one version of the truth, and a change log of exactly what moved.

Straight answer

Who this is actually for.

A fit if…

  • You run a Shopify store with physical stock and real suppliers
  • You're doing roughly £500k–£10m a year
  • Cash, stock and forecasting currently live in separate places
  • Your books are in a proper system and broadly up to date
  • A bad reorder decision costs you five figures

Not a fit if…

  • You're pre-launch or under £250k — a spreadsheet is genuinely fine
  • You're print-on-demand with no stock to fund
  • Your bookkeeping is months behind — fix that first
  • You want someone else to run your finances for you
  • You want a full ERP rather than a cash and stock view
Look inside

Four screens. One loop.

This isn't three tools in a bundle. The cash view knows what stock is arriving. The stock view knows what cash you'll have. The forecast feeds both, and the planner spends what's left. Click through and see it.

Questions

The bits people ask first.

How is this different from a cashflow app or an inventory planner?

Those tools are good — genuinely — at the third of the problem they own. A cashflow app models your bank position but has no idea what stock you're about to buy. An inventory planner tells you to reorder without knowing whether you can afford it. A forecasting spreadsheet predicts demand it can't tell you how to fund or fulfil. Cushion's only real feature is the join: the cash view knows what stock is coming, the stock view knows what cash you'll have, and the forecast drives both. If you already own all three and enjoy reconciling them by hand every Sunday, you don't need this.

Do I have to use Xero?

No. Cushion reads whatever accounting system you already run — Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, NetSuite, whatever it is. Same for subscriptions: Recharge, Skio, Loop, Bold and the rest all work. If yours isn't on the list and it has an API or a CSV export, we'll wire it up during setup at no extra cost.

Why £299 a month?

Because of what one wrong call costs. A reorder placed two weeks late becomes air freight. A tight week you didn't see becomes an overdraft fee or a supplier you've annoyed. Cushion costs less than an hour of a fractional CFO's time, and it's looking at your numbers every night rather than once a quarter.

Can it move money or change my Shopify data?

No. Every connection is read-only. It reads balances, bills, orders and sales, then models them forward. Approving and paying still happens in your bank and your accounting software, by you. There is no write access anywhere in the product.

Why not just use spreadsheets?

You can, and plenty of people do — I did for years, three of them at once. Two problems. First, a spreadsheet is a snapshot of the day you built it and it decays from there; Cushion reads live from your store, your books and your bank every night and reconciles against what actually cleared. Second, and the bigger one: three spreadsheets don't join themselves. You end up as the integration layer, doing it in your head, at the exact moment you're least able to think straight.

Do I need a developer or my accountant to set it up?

No developer. Connecting the data takes minutes. The part worth spending an afternoon on is your assumptions — payroll dates, tax quarters, supplier terms, lead times. If your bookkeeper knows those, half an hour with them will get it exact.

Does it work outside the UK?

Yes. It handles multiple markets and multiple currencies, including the FX exposure sitting in your balances. Tax is a configurable assumption, so US, EU and rest-of-world sellers map it to their own dates.

Can I cancel?

Any time, from the billing page, no phone call and no retention script. It's month to month with no contract, and if you cancel inside the 14-day trial you're never charged at all.

Who can see my numbers?

Only the people you let in. It runs behind your own access layer on your own domain — no shared multi-tenant database, and nothing about your business is visible to me or anyone else.

Stop guessing

Your next reorder is a cash decision. Make it with all three numbers in front of you.
